Fixed Mortgage Rates See Their Biggest Monthly Drop Since October 2024
There’s welcome news for borrowers this month, with average fixed mortgage rates recording their biggest monthly reductions since October 2024, according to the latest Moneyfacts data.
Average two-year and five-year fixed mortgage rates have both fallen to 5.52%, marking their lowest levels since March 2026. At the same time, lenders have continued to expand their mortgage ranges, increasing the number of products available and giving borrowers more choice.
What does this mean for borrowers?
Whether you’re a first-time buyer, moving home or approaching the end of your current mortgage deal, falling rates and increased product availability could create opportunities to secure a more suitable mortgage.
Moneyfacts also reports that the average Standard Variable Rate (SVR) remains significantly higher than many fixed-rate deals. This means homeowners coming to the end of a fixed-rate mortgage may benefit from reviewing their options before moving onto their lender’s SVR.
More mortgage choice
Product availability has now increased for the third consecutive month, with over 7,100 mortgage products currently available across the market.
While lenders are continuing to rebuild their ranges following market uncertainty earlier in the year, borrowers now have access to considerably more options than they did just a few months ago.
Should you review your mortgage now?
If your current mortgage deal ends within the next six months, it’s often worth reviewing your options early.
Many lenders allow you to secure a new mortgage several months before your existing deal expires. This can help protect you against future rate changes while giving you time to find the most suitable mortgage for your circumstances.
